Summer is upon us and all the races have begun. Colorado is full of so many athletes that they even have women-only events these days. We have picked out a couple around the state that you should look into this summer and flaunt that feminine athletic power of yours!
Venus de Miles
If you’re searching for a road ride with a woman’s touch, look no further than the Venus de Miles, August 28 in Boulder. A ride for all skill levels benefiting Greenhouse Scholars, Venus de Miles features the choice of four different course lengths, from a lofty 100 miles to a very manageable 33 miles. They also have bands playing rollicking tunes and aid stations serving up scrumptious gourmet treats like Bare Naked parfaits and European Truffles. And should you get a flat, never fear, for the popular “Men in Drag” are there to service your every mechanical need. Finally, upon crossing the finish line, head to the post-ride festival to indulge in a massage, sit for a mini facial or even get a polish change to your favorite OPI color, all while quenching your well-deserved thirst with a cold mojito.
Tri for the Cure
With 3,000 participants, Tri for the Cure is one of the largest women’s sporting events in Colorado. Taking place on August 7 and benefiting the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen, this sprint-distance triathlon is sure to push your endurance and athletic ability to the limit. Be sure to keep your schedule open the day before the race so you can stop by the mandatory Race Expo and Packet Pickup (Saturday, August 6, 9am-3pm) at Bicycle Village in Aurora.
After you bike, swim and run your way to the finish line, stick around and celebrate your achievement at the post-race party in the Hobie Hill area of Cherry Creek State Park. Enjoy live music, snacks and a much deserved beer with your fellow athletes.
If you’re not into triathlons but still want to help, donate to the cause
